There's something effortlessly beautiful about a soft scattering of freckles. They add warmth, character, and a youthful, sun-kissed appearance to the skin.
At Vivere Skin & Body, our semi-permanent Faux Freckle treatments are designed to recreate the delicate, natural appearance of freckles using advanced cosmetic tattooing techniques.
Whether you love a subtle dusting across the bridge of your nose or a more noticeable scattering over your cheeks, each treatment is thoughtfully customized to complement your complexion, facial features, and personal style.
The result? Beautifully imperfect, natural-looking freckles that give your skin a fresh, effortless glow without the need for sun exposure or daily makeup.
What Are Semi-Permanent Faux Freckles?
Faux Freckles are a form of semi-permanent cosmetic tattooing that uses carefully selected pigments to mimic the appearance of naturally occurring freckles.
Using specialized micropigmentation techniques, tiny deposits of pigment are placed into the skin in varying sizes, shapes, shades, and patterns to create a realistic, sun-kissed effect.
Unlike traditional makeup, faux freckles don't need to be reapplied every morning. The pigment is designed to gradually soften and fade over time, although some pigment may remain visible indefinitely.
Our approach focuses on creating natural variation rather than perfectly symmetrical dots, allowing your freckles to blend beautifully with your complexion.
Faux Freckles can:
-
Create a naturally sun-kissed appearance without harmful UV exposure.
-
Add warmth, character, and dimension to your complexion.
-
Enhance your natural features with subtle, realistic pigmentation.
-
Complement existing freckles or create an entirely new scattering.
-
Eliminate the need to draw on freckles with daily makeup.
-
Be customized from a few delicate freckles to a more noticeable, playful appearance.
What to Expect During Your Appointment
Consultation & Freckle Design
Your appointment begins with a personalized consultation to discuss your desired look, placement, colour, and overall freckle density.
We carefully assess your skin tone, undertones, and natural pigmentation to select shades that complement your complexion.
Freckles are strategically planned in an organic, irregular pattern, with variations in size and spacing to mimic the way natural freckles appear on the skin.
Pigment Application
Using a specialized digital permanent makeup device, tiny deposits of pigment are gently implanted into the skin.
The treatment is generally well tolerated, although mild sensitivity or discomfort may occur.
Immediately After Treatment
Your freckles will initially appear darker, more defined, and sometimes slightly warmer in tone than your final healed results.
Mild redness, tenderness, and temporary swelling may occur.
As your skin heals, the pigment gradually softens, creating a more subtle, natural-looking appearance.
The Healing Process
Days 1–3 | Initial Colour
Your freckles may appear darker and more prominent than expected. Mild redness and sensitivity are normal during this stage.
Days 4–10 | Healing & Softening
The skin begins to heal, and you may experience light dryness or flaking. Freckles gradually soften as the surface skin renews.
Avoid picking, scratching, or exfoliating the treated areas.
Weeks 2–4 | Colour Development
Your freckles continue to settle, becoming softer and more naturally blended with your complexion. Some freckles may appear lighter than others as the pigment heals.
Weeks 6–8 | Final Results
Once the skin has fully healed, your results can be assessed.
A perfecting appointment may be recommended to adjust colour, add additional freckles, or refine areas where pigment retention was uneven.
Preparing for Your Faux Freckle Appointment
Proper preparation is important for achieving beautiful results and supporting healthy healing.
-
Botox or Dysport: Allow a minimum of 2 weeks between facial neuromodulator injections and your Faux Freckle appointment.
-
Dermal Fillers: Allow approximately 2–4 weeks after filler treatments in the area, depending on the procedure and your provider's recommendations.
-
Retinol & Active Skincare: Avoid retinoids, exfoliating acids, and other potentially irritating active skincare products in the treatment area approximately 7 days before your appointment, unless medically prescribed.
-
Chemical Peels & Laser Treatments: Avoid resurfacing treatments in the area for at least 4 weeks before your appointment, or longer if your skin has not fully recovered.
-
Sun Exposure: Avoid tanning, sunburn, and excessive sun exposure before treatment.
-
Alcohol & Caffeine: Avoid alcohol for 24 hours and excessive caffeine on the day of your appointment.
-
Skin Health: Your skin must be free of active irritation, infections, open lesions, and inflamed breakouts in the treatment area.
-
Medications: Inform us of medications or supplements that may affect bleeding, pigmentation, or healing. Never discontinue prescribed medications without consulting your healthcare provider.
Please inform us if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, taking isotretinoin, or have a history of abnormal scarring, keloids, or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
Important: Faux Freckles are not placed directly over existing moles, suspicious pigmented lesions, or areas requiring dermatological monitoring. Any changing or concerning skin lesions should be assessed by a healthcare professional before treatment.
Faux Freckle Aftercare
Proper aftercare is essential for healthy healing and optimal pigment retention.
During the initial healing period:
-
Follow your personalized cleansing and aftercare instructions.
-
Avoid touching, scratching, picking, or exfoliating the treated freckles.
-
Avoid applying makeup directly over the treated area until the skin has healed.
-
Avoid excessive sweating, saunas, steam rooms, and swimming during initial healing.
-
Keep retinol, exfoliating acids, and other active skincare products away from the treatment area until fully healed.
-
Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning while healing.
-
Use only gentle, non-irritating skincare products as recommended.
Once healed, daily broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher is recommended to protect your skin and help minimize premature pigment fading.
How Long Do Semi-Permanent Faux Freckles Last?
Semi-permanent Faux Freckles typically maintain their appearance for approximately 1–3 years, although results vary depending on skin type, pigment selection, sun exposure, skincare products, and individual metabolism.
Over time, the pigment gradually softens and fades. Some freckles may fade more quickly than others, creating natural variations in colour and intensity.
Although considered semi-permanent, cosmetic tattooing involves implanting pigment into the skin, and complete fading cannot be guaranteed. Some residual pigment may remain visible long-term.
Colour refresh appointments may be recommended to maintain your desired appearance.
